An alliance of talents

A harmony between métiers

A creator, manufacturer and trader of high-quality objects of exceptional craftsmanship, Hermès is a
mosaic of men and women from a vast variety of
professional backgrounds, all united by the same
respect for the crafts and a love of a
job well done. All artisans are, in their own way, driven by the vital spark of creation that keeps the house alive in all of its métiers: around the collections, in the manufactories, close to the clients, in support of others.

In the manufactories

Leather craftspeople, tanners, printers, workshop supervisors, production managers, quality controllers, Health, Safety and Environment managers, Method Engineers, Supply Chain managers… Faithful to the artisan spirit that born in the harness and saddle workshops, they seek to perpetuate the company’s tradition
of high-quality and excellence while continuing to reinvent and evolve its fabrication methods and procedures.

The printer’s mission is to ennoble the fabric to make a headscarf, shawl or tie of the highest quality.
They regulate the many print settings of the large print tables on which the fabric (silk or cashmere) rests gently stretched. Using juxtaposing screens one after the other, they apply up to forty colours directly to the fabric depending on the design and the patterns of the object. The successive frames gradually reveal the drawing and colouring of the final image on the garment.
This traditional technique called “flatbed screen printing” or “Lyonnaise” printing requires great dexterity from the printers and is a valuable skill, combining perfection and precision inherited from the Lyon silk manufacturers.
